Kinect Motion Sport What's New. First hitting the shelves nearly a year ago, the Xbox Kinect has grown noticeably as more and more outside parties are getting their hands on this groundbreaking technology. Although initially catering to family settings, the Kinect will undoubtedly continue to mature as developers expand the list of potential uses for this device.
Since the Kinect full-body gaming experience transforms the player into the controller, upcoming technologies will expand on exactly how the body will be used for gaming. One such feature will be the tweaking and expansion of voice-controlled entertainment. In the upcoming months this feature, used in conjunction with Xbox Live, will allow users to vocally browse a wider selection of their favorite movies, sports, TV shows, and other media without ever having to enter in a search by hand. Some of the upcoming entertainment options will include Bravo, Dailymotion, HBO GO, MSNBC, Syfy, UFC, VEVO, Xfinity, Youtube, and many others.
In addition to enhanced voice recognition technology, the Kinect is also expected to expand upon facial recognition, allowing heightened interactions with the Kinect Avatar in real-time, gauging the user’s emotions, augmenting head-tracking control, and improving the user’s overall tele-presence in the Kinect world.
Furthermore, the Xbox Kinect will expand to the Windows platform in 2012, which, according to Craig Eisler of Microsoft, “will give [business leaders and technological visionaries] the tools they need to develop novel solutions for everything from training employees to visualizing data, from configuring a car to managing an assembly line,” (theguardian).
Although the current inventory of games available for the Kinect is slightly limited, there are still plenty of good options available for the holiday season. Currently, the three top selling games that utilize this device are Kinect Sports, Kinect Joy Ride, and Dance Central. In addition to these games, some of the other hottest games include Forza Motorsport 4, Rise of Nightmares, Child Of Eden, Gunstringer, and Madden NFL 12.. One can see by the progression of Kinect games the choices will only become more and more exciting as time goes on. Already scheduled for release in 2012, the following games offer exciting advancements in motion-based gaming: Babel Rising, Binary Domain, Fable the Journey, FIFA 13, Haunt, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier,Kinect Star Wars, Mass Effect 3, Minecraft, ,Steel Battalion Heavy Armor, and too many more to list.
Given its explosive release in 2010, where it garnered a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest selling electronic device, it’s no wonder that the Kinect is currently beating out the Wii and the PlayStation Move, having sold an estimated 10 million units since its birth. Given that the Move is so similar to the Wii in functionality, and that so far nothing technologically comparable to the Kinect Motion Sport has hit the market, one can expect that, with additional groundbreaking innovations being progressed daily by both Microsoft and other outside developers, Kinect Motion Sport will continue to be in the forefront of gaming in the upcoming months and years.
